Caipirinha (Portuguese pronunciation: [kajpiˈɾĩj̃ɐ]) is Brazil‘s national cocktail, made with cachaça (pronounced: [kaˈʃasɐ]) (sugarcane hard liquor), sugar and lime. Cachaça, also known as pinga, caninha, or any one of a multitude of traditional names, is Brazil’s most common distilled alcoholic beverage. Although both rum and cachaça are made from sugarcane-derived products, in cachaça the alcohol results from the fermentation of fresh sugarcane juice that is then distilled, while rum is usually made from refinery by-products such as molasses.
The drink is prepared by muddling the fruit and the sugar together, and adding the liquor. This can be made into a single glass, usually large, that can be shared amongst people, or into a larger jar, from where it is served in individual glasses.
PAST EPISODE OF OUT WITH LEO:
That’s right Hollywood! Watch out for Leopold hitting your auditions and opportunities! Bring it on 2017!
YEEEES! It happened in Rio de Janeiro, Leopold’s home town, he got invited to sing a classic Brazilian rock song, Bete Balanco, sung originally by one of Leo’s major influence, Cazuza. It happened LIVE with the house band on a major TV show, the awesome Amor e Sexo on Globo TV channel. The show had an audience record peak of 64 million viewers and it was literally historical. The show was a celebration to the LGBTQ arts, expression and freedom! It talked about the growing and alarming violence and lack of tolerance towards the LGBTQ community. In Brazil numerous trans, gays, lesbians are killed solely by hate and ignorance.
It was a very important move to the whole entire country, because it was aired at GLOBO, the biggest right wing, media monopoly. Globo owns EVERYTHING news papers, magazines, radio stations, cable channel, websites, apps and has the massively majority of Brazilian viewers. Globo it’s the Brazilian version of the American FOX. But bigger and more powerful.
We were there to be ourselves. To sing from our hearts out and to be heard. We were there to help the movement by educating the country about freedom and respect.
