YEEEES! It happened in Rio de Janeiro, Leopold’s home town, he got invited to sing a classic Brazilian rock song, Bete Balanco, sung originally by one of Leo’s major influence, Cazuza. It happened LIVE with the house band on a major TV show, the awesome Amor e Sexo on Globo TV channel. The show had an audience record peak of 64 million viewers and it was literally historical. The show was a celebration to the LGBTQ arts, expression and freedom! It talked about the growing and alarming violence and lack of tolerance towards the LGBTQ community. In Brazil numerous trans, gays, lesbians are killed solely by hate and ignorance.
It was a very important move to the whole entire country, because it was aired at GLOBO, the biggest right wing, media monopoly. Globo owns EVERYTHING news papers, magazines, radio stations, cable channel, websites, apps and has the massively majority of Brazilian viewers. Globo it’s the Brazilian version of the American FOX. But bigger and more powerful.
We were there to be ourselves. To sing from our hearts out and to be heard. We were there to help the movement by educating the country about freedom and respect.
